A coffee gift set brings a packaging problem a single bag doesn't have: multiple stand-up pouches need to sit apart from each other and stay upright, while the set still has to read as one coordinated gift rather than bags rattling loose in a box. Roast weight changes a pouch's footprint — a smaller travel bag and a full-size bag from the same brand aren't interchangeable in a fitted tray — so bag count and whether sizes match or vary decide the internal layout before the outer carton size gets set.

Measuring the Pouches

Start with what each pouch actually measures: its width, its height when filled and standing, and its gusset depth at the base. A flat-bottom stand-up pouch holds its shape differently than a pillow pouch that only stays upright when supported, and that difference changes how deep the tray's slots need to be cut.

Rigid vs Folding: Gift Purchase or Retail Multipack

A rigid two-piece box holds its shape permanently and suits a set positioned as a direct, considered gift purchase. A folding carton collapses flat for shipping and storage and still carries a fitted interior tray — it tends to suit a set that also needs to ship efficiently in volume, whether that's a subscription box insert or a retail multipack. Neither is universally better; the choice depends on whether the set sells primarily as a one-off gift or also needs case-pack shipping efficiency.

Keeping Pouches Upright and Visible

A flexible pouch brings a different fit problem than a rigid bottle or jar — without a properly sized slot, a stand-up bag can lean, sag, or slide against its neighbors instead of holding its shape. A fitted kraft paperboard tray with one slot per pouch is the common approach; the exact slot width and depth are confirmed once real pouch dimensions and fill weight are on file.

Window Placement and Pouch Branding

A die-cut window can let each bag's own label and roast information show through before the set is opened, which matters when the pouches already carry a brand's own printed design. A fully enclosed carton keeps that reveal for when the lid or flap opens instead. If a bag has a one-way degassing valve, window placement is planned around keeping it unobstructed rather than centered arbitrarily.
